Often called 'footballers ankle' or 'ballet ankle', [13] PAIS can be a debilitating condition characterized by pain at the back of the ankle. People suffering from PAIS often report that they feel pain when their toes are pointed maximally. As the names suggest this condition is common in professional sports people who point their toes often, such as ballet dancers [12], footballers [14], cross country runners (downhill parts especially) and cricket fast bowlers [13] (Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee and Andrew Flintoff have all had operations for PAIS).
